Why Are We Committed?

Identifying cavities early is important to reverse the disease process, prevent the progression of cavities, and reduce the incidence of future lesions.

  • For 2015–2016, 45.8% of children aged 2-19 had cavities, and 13% left them untreated.
Tooth decay is the most common chronic disease in children in the United States. Astoundingly, it is 5x as prevalent as asthma and 4x more common than early- childhood obesity.

    • There are major inequality gaps in the access to affordable, high-quality treatment for children
  • More than 18 million underserved children went without dental care, including routine exams, in 2014
  • In 2014, 52% of all children did not have a dental visit during the year
